Boba Fett Vs. Darth Vader
At its absolute best, the discussion of Boba Fett versus Darth Vader is not even a Star Wars discussion. Boba Fett represents the classic gunslinger in the American west while Darth Vader represents the samurai as well as certain Eastern mysticism. They are both seemingly 19th century archetypes which represent the best of debates about East versus West. Fett is self trained growing up existing on the fringes of society. Vader was trained in a classic order and fighting style within the confines of a somewhat stilted society. Who wins? We give you the opportunity to decide.
Fett has survived by his wits since being orphaned at a very young age. Fett will use any means necessary to achieve an advantage. Fett is also adept at using a variety of weapons often employing stealth as an ally. Fett will use blasters, bombs, knives, cunning, and whatever else he needs. Fett has a rocket as well as the ability to work with ropes.
Fett also has an imposing reputation which gives him a psychological advantage over most any opponent. In addition to these thing, Fett watched his father killed by Mace Windu. Fett’s hatred for the order or anyone associated with it is deep rooted. As a bounty hunter, Fett is also used to out thinking his opponents and predicting their moves.
Fett has a hunter’s mentality and show a great deal of patience when stalking his prey. If you encounter Boba Fett, then the chances are good that you have already stepped into as well as sprung a trap specifically designed for you. After that, it is all a matter of falling prey to Boba Fett’s legendary accuracy and hoping someone paid him to take you in with “or alive” as at least an option.
One does not receive the title of ‘chosen one’ without having a certain level of talent. Vader can defeat you in a variety of different venues. Vader is a skilled pilot. Vader is also deadly with a light saber. In addition, Vader has the ability to wield the Force in a multitude of ways in which Vader doesn’t even have to touch you.
Vader can choke you from a distance. Vader can hurl objects at you. Vader is also known to talk to opponents to gain a psychological advantage. In addition, Vader had been known to look directly into your thoughts for an advantage. Vader was trained from a young age to use the Force for both attack as well as defense. In addition, Vader possesses a masterful tactical ability. Vader also has a level of controlled anger and a long memory. Vader is capable of committing atrocities without so much as a change in facial expression.
Internally, Vader can move on with missions with very little sense of guilt or remorse as long as he believes in the rightness of his purpose. Vader can rationalize wholesale slaughter of children as well as the destruction of a planet to prove a simple point.
When Fett went down into the Sarlaac Pit, it did appear that Fett went down really easily. This would imply that Fett does not work well in situations in which he cannot control. Fett can be caught completely off guard. If you take the element or surprise or control away from him, the Boba Fett becomes really susceptible. Also, Fett being largely self taught can work both as a pro and a con.
The lack of formal training makes Fett very unpredictable. The same lack can also make Fett susceptible to a skilled classically trained fighter. Also, Fett’s focus in fighting is generally to capture, kill, or defending against an opponent. Fett’s forte is hunting prey weaker than him or weakening prey to his level before subduing him. Therefore, if Fett ever did somehow manage to find himself in a ‘fair fight,’ Fett would have a perceived disadvantage. Although Jango Fett did fight Obi Wan Kenobi to a standstill as well as kill other Knights with impunity, Fett did not demonstrate that same level of ability even with being a natural clone of Jango. Fett might lose a fair fight but Fett would rarely let the fight be fair.
Those heavy breathing sounds are not just there to freak you out. Darth Vader relies on that breathing apparatus to keep him alive. In addition, as imposing as he is, Vader is still a paraplegic who relies on mechanical limbs just to get around. Vader has been known to let emotion get the best of him. Also, Vader has not fared very well in facing opponents multiple times.
Vader generally would win as well as lose duels against opponents. Vader lost his first battle with Count Dooku only to later defeat him. Vader lost to Kenobi and later defeated him. Vader initially beat Luke but lost as Luke matured. In this context, Vader is by no means invincible to a comparable opponent. Often, those who challenge Vader have no real recourse against him. In those cases, Vader will dispatch them easily. Additionally, Vader can be aggravated frequently to the point of distraction during fights. If you are able to make Vader emotional, then you stand a greater chance of him making mistakes as well as defeating him. Additionally, Vader is frequently over confident to the point of error in fights.
The one thing that is not in doubt is that both Darth Vader and Boba Fett are snappy imposing dressers. You could have a face/off based on the coolness of the costumes alone. However, who would you take when it came down to it? Would you take the gunfighter hardened by years of tests or the temple raised Samurai immersed in eons of tradition? Who would win? Boba Fett or Darth Vader. It is a debate so old that you may actually remember ending it at one point with “Nuh Huh” or “I’m telling Mom.” Cast your vote and state your case.
